M73 Rifle
M73 Rifle SN11486
This is an early M73 rifle in what looks to be original condition.
The rod is the Type I M73, the sight is the M73 with slotless mounting
screws, the lock is dated 1873 and it has the first style hammer. The
butt plate has the small U.S. marking and the bands have small "U's".
The stock has the long wrist and a faint, but visible ESA cartouche.
However, it has an "o" inspector's stamp, but no firing proof. This
anomaly is common on these early rifles. We do not know why, but
some carbines and rifles in the less than SN20000 seem to have this
variation if the stock inspectors stamp is "o". This rifle also has B
10 stamped along the butt stock. Again, I do not know what it means,
but it is something that is often found on trapdoors.
This rifle has
initials carved across the top of the wrist
and has marks across the bottom of the stock near the butt plate. I do
not know if they are dings or marks from several successful hunts. The
bore has some scale, but it is a very shootable bore.
This is a very rare and collectible rifle
$1195 + S/H.
